“It is our collective and individual responsibility … to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live.” —Dalai Lama

In our previous post, we saw the potentially immense role technology plays in alleviating the global environmental crisis. We discussed the state of India’s air quality in particular, causes of pollution, and technological developments that have made it simpler to track, monitor and analyze the state of our environment.

Air quality deterioration and its impact on public health is evident. And to set it right, making a collective effort is the best approach.  Even seemingly small lifestyle or attitudinal changes become significant, when combined with the right technology.

Take a moment to consider what you have done in your step(s) to improve the air quality of your environment. Now, what if you had the means to amplify your effort with the right technology? This is where our solutions play a role.

At Knowledge Lens, we have always worked towards leveraging our tech to make real-world impact. We believe in fostering a community of responsible, informed citizens, who work actively towards a better tomorrow. This is why we are passionate about our product GLens which enables real-time environmental monitoring and analytics and GLens Innovation Labs which offers expert environmental testing, analytics and consulting services.

The focus of this blog post is on our green initiative-  Sameer, a real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring app, which we have developed in concert with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Sameer provides location-wise air quality status information in the form  of the National Air Quality Index (AQI) published by CPCB, on an hourly basis.

What is AQI  ?
Air Quality Index (AQI) is an overall scheme, based on National Ambient Air Quality standards, that transforms individual air pollutant (e.g. SO2, CO, PM10) levels into a single number, indicating the air pollution status of a particular location. Because it converts complex air quality data into a single color-coded number, it provides comprehensive information that is easy to understand.

Higher AQI values infer higher air pollution and lower AQI values infer lower air pollution. Poor AQI, or deteriorated air quality may lead to higher chances of  improper lung development in children, undiagnosed heart and lung conditions, chronic respiratory, circulatory, and cardiac disease.

Sameer App : Vital information, at your fingertips

Using the Sameer app (available for Android and iOS devices), pollution level- check is just a click away. You can now stay informed about vital information of pollution rates at a city-wise level. The AQI transforms complex air quality data of various pollutants into a single color coded number; it is an effective way to communicate air quality status to Indian citizens.

The app comprises easy-access features such as:

  • Map view and City view of AQI
  • AQI Bulletin on air pollution levels across the country
  • Complaint Lodging and Tracking
  • Viewing Nearby Complaints
City-wise AQI listing

Your contribution makes a real difference

The app also comes with a capability for the public to register complaints related to air pollution. This way, Sameer gives the power back to the people, so you can take charge of air quality- related issues in your city/ locality. Filing a complaint is simple and hassle-free. You can also track your open complaints on Sameer.

1. Lodging a complaint on Sameer

2. Tracking complaints in your area

3. Organization logs on to the system through Sameer

4. Inspects all complaints received, and views a particular complaint.

5. View complaint location on map.

6. Authorized official then updates complaint status after resolving it.

The Way Forward

The information provided via Sameer is credible and accurate, and enables you to stay updated on all air quality-related information. It allows you to actively participate in the well-being of your environment, and make informed choices based on your understanding of air quality levels in your locality.

Here’s what our users are saying about Sameer:

“I am really grateful for the swift action towards my complaint in just 2 days. After I filed a complaint, I received a call from the Pollution Board who gave me the phone number of the inspector under whose jurisdiction my area comes. I contacted him, and on the same day, he visited and resolved the problem.”

-Sonakshi Abrol

“The truth will set you free. Install this app to know the exact status of pollution in your area so you can do something about it.”

-Sajai Paul

“The database by CPCB is authentic and is very relevant in view of the increased levels of city pollution.”

-Krishnendu Das

We are always looking for ways to improve our product technologies to serve you better. Go on, install the Sameer app today, and let us know your feedback in the comments section, or drop us an email at sales@knowledgelens.com
